Yi Uimin
A military ruler of Goryeo who rose from a low social background to supreme power.
Key events
Yi Uimin rose as a soldier through his martial ability and took part in the 1170 coup. He later played a leading role in killing the deposed King Uijong.
Legacy
Once in power, abuses by him and his family provoked resentment. In 1196, Choe Chungheon and his brother killed him, bringing his rule to a violent end.
