In the Samguk Yusa tale, a song spread by Seodong causes Seonhwa’s exile from the Silla palace. She joins him, and their story leads to his kingship in Baekje and the foundation of Mireuksa.
Legacy
Material evidence from Mireuksa complicates a literal reading of the tale. Seonhwa is best introduced as a figure of this tradition rather than a securely identified queen.
